Its one of the hardest things in life is to watch people you care about suffer with cancer. I am only 22 years old and I have now seen 3 of my family members have to deal with the pain of cancer. When I was in middle school we discovered that my Grandfather had colon cancer. He also had many places on his body with skin cancer and continued to get new cancers in other parts of his body. He was treated for just over a year but the cancer had been found too late. He passed away February of my freshman year of high school. About 3 years ago my Mother was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. After surgery and radiation treatments she is doing well. “Tumor markers all holding in the normal range. Still have a CT next week just in case but it looks like I’m 6 months cancer free :)”- Joey Last summer (2011) My older brother, Joey, went into the doctor for some pain and found out he had Testicular cancer. By the end of the week he was in surgery to have the cancer removed. Once the cancer was biopsied it turned out he had 2 separate types of cancer one that was very aggressive. He then started chemotherapy treatments, which made him very sick and he lost all his hair. My family has been very blessed in the fact that my Grandfather was 85 years old when he passed away and that my Mother and Brother are doing well. Other families have not been so lucky and that is why I am Participating in Relay-for-Life.

This year USF is hosting a Relay for Life event raising money for the American Cancer Society.  I will be participating in this event and I am writing to ask for your support. Every donation helps even just the smallest amount.  The ACS funding goes to helping discover new cancer treatments and fighting to increase research of preventive methods.

Many families have been greatly affected by cancer including my own. My grandfather passed away when I was 14 and in recent years my mother and brother have both gone through cancer treatments. My family was blessed that my grandfather was old and my mother and brother are doing fine but other families aren’t so lucky.

Please, as I said every little bit counts, even just $1 and donating online only takes a few minutes!

Believe it or not, the first two photos are a reproduction of the extant jacket, which is pictured in the bottom photo, by Reine des Centfeuilles. Stunning!
